E-Learning Course „Introduction to Sustainable Finance“

Against the background of the urgent need to mobilize capital at scale in support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the objectives of the Paris Agreement, the green bond pioneer Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB) and the Emerging Markets Dialogue on Finance, initiated a develoPPP.de public-private partnership in early 2016 with the objective to support the development of prosperous and sustainable green bond market in Brazil, China, India and Mexico.

To foster the sustainable international impact and address the large interest green bonds and sustainable finance, SEB and GIZ agreed to develop the first globally accessible and free-of-charge e-learning course on sustainable finance. In partnership with PAGE (Partnership for Action on Green Economy), the e-learning course “Introduction to Sustainable Finance” was developed. The course shares valuable insights of the Strategic Alliance of GIZ and SEB, and our technical partner CICERO, gained over the course of three years during activities in emerging economies and interactions with market participants worldwide. In addition, the course builds on SEB’s collaborations with sustainable finance leaders around the world and many forward-looking institutional investors. Participants will also learn about examples of UN-supported initiatives to promote sustainable finance in countries like Mongolia and Indonesia.

This interactive and practice-oriented course covers the basics of sustainable finance while providing several opportunities to dive deeper. The course is designed for interested participants from banks, investors, governments, businesses, academia and civil society in general and is divided into the following three modules, each comprising of a series of short lessons:

  1. Fundamentals of Sustainable Finance
  2. The Sustainable Finance Market
  3. Sustainable Finance Products: Green Bonds and Green Loans

Participants can navigate through the modules and lessons according to their individual interests, time availability and level of knowledge. It takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete the course and after successful completion of the quizzes, participants are issued an UN certificate.
